Old is new!

Decided to start posting random photos, no matter how old, as long as I actually took them.

Entitled: Man Tattoo Stares at Shoe (Bonnaroo 2008)

Tacky Tory and Co.

For some reason I love to hate Tory Burch shoes. Maybe it's the gaudiness of the of the seal on the toe of nearly every pump, heel, and ballerina flat.

Kind of the same gaudiness that goes with the giant "C" pattern on Coach bags.

Granted, I don't think any of these started out as being tacky. Before every middle schooler felt the need to carry a Coach, Coach bags were relatively classy, "Cs" and all. Before Tory Burch shoes were on the foot of every sorority girl on campus, they were classy too. (p.s. Not bashing sorority girls)

I'm just saying that, like everything that becomes a trend, the feeling of a purchasing something that once seemed like a treat, is now a purchase that blends your feet.

A happy day

I found some pretty pictures of Mama the day of Jennifer's wedding.  She was very very smiley that day. :-)

Week end, Week begin

Sarah's old friend/ex-boyfriend/childhood friend/bestest friend came to visit this weekend with his truly hilarious wife.  Good visit.  He also introduced to me to a fabulous website called mixwit.com.  Talk about addiction.  I've already made three mixes, and I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite toy (for this week at least).  I've also rekindled my obsession for last.fm, another fun site to waste ooddles of time on.

This weekend was pretty low key.  Which is probably a good thing considering my 21st birthday festivities will begin on Wednesday with a family dinner for my actual birthday, then a trip to the irish pub downtown so I can order everyone beer.  Thursday will be Girls Night Out for nice dinner and club.  Then, Friday will be a birthday event which I'm not allowed to know about.  So far my hints have been, "Baby Einstein" and "Raffi."  The first thing I thought about Baby E. was, oh my sisters bought me a lot of weed.  As for Raffi I immediately started singing "I'd like to be, under the sea, in an octopus' garden in the shade"...but apparently we aren't going scuba diving.  So really, I have no idea what those hints could even possibly mean. Guess I'll have to wait and find out.

I'm hoping I can make it through this birthday by focusing entirely on two things, the number "2" and the number "1."  Because if I think about anything else it will be pure misery.  First birthday without my mother. Yay.  I should go on mixwit and make a fantastic mix about that. Ugh.

Anyway.  Looks like it's nap time again.  Though I'm really looking forward to the different events and shindigs, I think my subconscious dread of the whole event is making me extra tired.  I guess this is a case where I'm going to listen to my body and take its advice.  Sleepy time for me.

How many words does it take to say nothing? Please see this post to find out.

So I haven't been in a bloggy mood lately. I guess things have been pretty placid on the pond that is my life. (Hahaha...ha.......ha .....um, yeaaaa....:-\)

My life is pretty much revolving around watching the Olympics and forcing myself to actually keep up a basic exercise routine. I'm quite happy because due to excercising daily I've already noticed a change mentally and physically. :-) Hooray! I also discovered that my a.d.d. tendencies show up when I'm trying to stay healthy too. I think it's because I get bored with one thing. For example, I was riding my bike all last week, and I'll ride it this week too, but I don't feel like riding it every day. So I think I'm going to go buy some sort of aerobic Taebo dvd and spend a few evenings a week bouncing around in the living room. Should be interesting for anyone who happens to pass through.

Anway, like I said, not much to blog about lately.

P.s. Michael Phelps a golden god.

I LOVE SWIMMING!!!

So if you didn't watch the Men's 4x100M Relay last night... You probably should have. But it's not too late! Click and watch. Talk about a fantastic Olympic event...

Oh Saturday...

Good morning world!

Woke up this morning and it's a beautiful day!  Seems as though the heat wave may have let up a little. And I intend to take advantage of it! Off I go!!!

Oh the things we can do...

It's the weekend! (almost)

Finishing up lunch break now. I ate over half of a small pizza, so much for "eating healthy." Oh well, I deserve it seeing as I've actually been excercising lately (here we go again, right?).

But I'm so excited about this weekend. Mainly because my plans are minimal which leaves a ton of room for improvision.

So far I want my two days of freedom to include: a run through second-hand shops, a few hours (at least) in the sun, a ride on my bike, and good times with friends. I foresee all of those happening. Yay! :-)

Oh, I also want to start on my new and oh-so-cliche (wait is that a completely contridictory statement?) photography project. Something that has to do with macro shots and the town I live in. Yes it's probably been done, but not by me.

I'm off to make it on the final stretch: 3ish hours and counting. Oh gah, I shouldn't have thought about that number...

All that Jazzzz...

Copenhagen Fashion Week began on Wednesday and I decided I would save my runway photo overkill for September 5-12 (aka Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week) but then I saw Day Birger et Mikkelson's collection and became utterly obsessed! Channeling 1930s fashion is never a bad thing...

Let the countdown to Spring 2009 begin!

P.s. I'm officially (more) in love with wingtips!!!

An Olympic Disaster...

At 10:30 Wednesday night, I was left sitting on the couch, remote in hand, PR5 end credits in TiVo freeze, and saying “What the heck did I just watch?”

I think it all started with Blayne constantly scratching his too-tan skin or the overkill of his American Apparel hoody sans the shirt. Here I should state I’m not knocking American Apparel. Helloooo, my closet contains ¾ of their inventory, but no one should wear a hoody shirtless unless a) they’re in an American Apparel ad or b) they’re an amazing, original designer…and Blayne, I’m sorry to say, is neither.

But this is Project Runway, NOT America’s Next Top Model…

Wednesday seemed to bring out the worst and best of aspects competition in an Olympic fashion. Apparently the high drama mix of Keith almost swiping Terri’s fabric, Kenley’s giggles (I would be giggling too if I had immunity in a challenge where everyone else was having serious issues), and Joe’s testosterone-overload in a room full of “queens,” left a few designers confused when faced with their challenge. Most notably the Auf’ed Jennifer, (colorblind?) Daniel, and Jerell’s cartoonish, patterned explosion.

Was it just me, or was everyone else sick of listening to Jennifer continue to talk about her “surreal” design technique. For most of the hour I found myself trying to wrap my head around why it was Emily, not her, that went home last week. As for my sister (also a Jennifer, and completely opposite of the PR Jennifer), she just wanted to know: “Does she even know what surrealism is?” And after she sent, yet another, replication of her own wardrobe down the runway, the judges (thank goodness) sent her, and her to think forward, packing.

It did seem a few people out of the crowd had actually heard of the Olympics, and interpreted the fervor of the opening ceremonies in different ways. Joe (even though I have a grudge against him for being so annoying throughout the episode) made a very practical athletic outfit, complete with a vertical “USA” on the front, while Terri seemed to channel Olympics of 1984. My personal favorite, and the winner, was Korto’s high-waisted, peg-leg pant suit. Very lovely in clean white, and very fashion forward (all over the runways for Fall/Winter 08/09 and Resort Spring/Summer 09).

So on to next week, which I’m sure will be full of some interesting situations. For one, it looks as though Kenley’s giggling spill out of the work room and onto the runway… oh the drama…

P.s. I also heard there’s going to be a little more than sewing going on this season with two designers. True or false? Maybe we’ll see…

Maggie Update

Maggie Super-Star: Spotted after bath-time, and sporting fabulous vintage aviatoresque sunglasses.

And only a few moments before Maggie had enjoyed a wonderful bath in her Aunt Sarah's sink.

I wish I were a Hobo (bag, that is)

So I've been searching for the perfect, classy, and timeless shoulder bag. I found it! This will be mine ASAP, preferably in Maple. I'm thinking, Christmas present to myself... (*sigh* for having to wait that long)

I Knee-ed Boots!

It didn't take very long, as I obsessed over the Style.com archives of last month's Fashion Week, to realize I am completely infatuated with this Fall's over the knee boots. And I mean infatuateddd. Of course I also love ankle boots, to-the-shin boots, short boots, to-the-knee boots, thigh high boots (Can I please channel Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman - not all, but bits n pieces -, thanks)...okay, so I just like boots.

Currently at Nieman Marcus (and not in my closet *sigh*) are some fabulous examples:

Worries of a First Time Voter

This November, for the first time, I will be old enough to vote in a Presidential election. There are a million things I'm trying to think about. Due to certain issues I know there is one candidate specifically that I could not bring myself to vote for...but then I have this issue rolling around in my head:

There has to be a difference between a "flip-flopper" and a person who is willing to change their tune due to new information.

I love paying attention to politics. I'm an Obama supporter. I was a Bush supporter in our scary post-9/11 world, until he pulled out his six-shooter and started going after everyone that even looked even remotely sketchy (oh except those crazies in Sudan that are killing off people in Darfur, but they don't have any desirable natural resources so who cares...right? whatever.). But I also believe that maybe one day, facts about present day events will be released that the American people never knew about, and maybe we'll realize Bush wasn't such a psycho after all...I hope.

But what really bothers me is how do you tell the difference between a presidential candidate who "flip-flops" on his views, and a candidate who is taking into account new information. But wait, are they really all the same? To that question, I wish the answer was no, but I'm really beginning to wonder.

I'm so excited to be voting in the election this November, but I'm wondering if this first time participation in the political process will just be the beginning of the path to more disillusionment...

Dairy Queen, you are awesome. The End.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when companies slap a symbol, like a pink ribbon for breast cancer or any color ribbon for anything, just to market an item, just to make people feel better about themselves when they buy it.  But today I saw something and it made me feel quite happy:

Dairy Queen has teamed up with the Children's Miracle Network and on this Thursday, August 7, 2008, all of their profits, not a portion, all of their profits will go to this organization.

What that means is that I will be going to Dairy Queen for a lovely chocolate sunday and you should too.  Also, check out their website to learn more about Miracle Treat Day (how awesome is that name?).

there are too many songs about monday

Good morning good morning good morning!!!! :-)
So I had planned to get up uber early to do a thirty minute bike ride this morning (purely experimental), but as a result of my sunburn and no sleep I didn't wake up until 6:30, boo.
But I feel quite happy with myself this morning besides my failed exercise attempt. :-) I woke up and used my super fabulous Proactive stuff. Sarah and I have both started using it, and I literally feel like my face is floating it feels so nice and clean. It also helps me to avoid that adolescent 13 year old look. Yay! Jessica Simpson, I knew you would never lie to me!
Also, due a sunburn from 4 hours in the sun, which I might add was purely accidental. I was being very careful, including a floppy straw hat, massive sunglasses and a mixture of 30 spf and 15 spf sunscreen. Sigh. But the good things in the sun make me feel all chipper and such. So yay for the sun!
And there are a lot of songs about Monday. Google it.

Crazy dream in three parts

Sarah thought I should write down the jacked-up dream sequence I had the other night. It was rather odd. She also said it was one of those dreams that were perfect for intrepretation...

Part 1 -
Sarah and I are sitting at a table and a woman that we know walks up. She's all chatty and tells us she has a gift for us and pulls two tea pots covered in pink breast cancer ribbons out of a bag. I immediatly take mine and smash it on the table. She, of course, looks horrified, and I go, "Opps, sorry" and glare at her.

Part 2 -
I'm back in my high school cafeteria with the Three Kays and we're still the same age we are now. As we walk towards our regular table I see a girl I hate sitting in our seats (That's true life, if I saw her I would be a little more violent then I was in my dream...) and I glare at her, say some not-so-nice things very audibly and kep walking to find another table.

Part 3 (and the most cracked out one) -
This is one of those dream sequences where you know everyone in your dream but that person doesn't exist in real life. The whole thing feature a good vs. evil. I'm on the good side and our leader is Peter Pan, and on the bad side is Voldemort (if you don't know who Voldermort is go crawl back under your rock. thanks). In the dream we can all fly because Peter Pan is with us, but he gets hurt and we (me and another guy) have to carry him back to the safehouse (which is incidently, the Townville house). We're flying him back through the night, but he's heavy and we're weak ith him being hurt it's difficult for us to fly.

Finally, we get back to the safehouse and everyone is waiting for us. We barely make it before Voldemort and his forces close in. But he can't get into the house because there's a protective charm that makes it look like there's no one home, and even if he comes inside, he wouldn't be able to see us to catch us.

We lock all the doors and I'm watching as he lurks around in the shadows of the yard, then I go to recheck the doors again. The back door has been kicked in, which means Voldemort has made it inside the house, but the dimensions are different because of the charm. However, if he ends up being in the place at the same time as one of us, he would be able to touch one of us and the charm would be broken, which means we would all die.

The dream ends and we're all being still against the walls and furniture, hoping that we won't collide with him.

So those were my dreams. And no. I don't do hard drugs or take strange medication before I go to bed.

Spring has come and summer is almost gone, but...

Holla' Tim Gunn, you make those designers work! (Ha!)

Okay, okay, so this is only two days late...but whatever:

Wednesday night, Project Runway entered some sort of strange, alternate universe, twilight zone where Tim Gunn says “Holla atcha boy” and the ongoing battle of balance between craftsmanship vs. creative appeal was tipped…

Now for the runway review:

Let us begin by rewinding time and thinking about last week’s episode. Wesley’s burnt sienna mess vs. Leanne’s burnt sienna mess. Wesley had poor craftsmanship, Leanne’s vision went in circles…literally. Bye bye Wesley. Now let’s take a look at the two dresses below, which were created as outfits inspired by photographs of New York City at night, taken by the designers:

At the left is Jennifer’s design and Emily’s design is to the right.

Michael Kors’ said that behind all the misplaced ruffles Emily had made a very nice little black dress.

Hiedi said that Jennifer’s design almost made her not want to see more.

Susanna said that if she (of all the sewing inept people) could see the jagged hem on Jennifer’s silk, blue, maternity-frock-found-a-thrift-store, called a fresh new look based on New York city…then there’s a problem. Especially when her inspiration of “Holly Golightly meets Salvador Dali” has yet to appear on the runway. Also, Holly Golightly wouldn’t have given that shamble a second look, and Salvador Dali would’ve just dumped a bucket of paint on it, or something.

I would like to insert here the point that a fellow Project Runway viewer made: Jennifer's model's hair looked fantastic (and in my opinion she was well put together with the shoes and such), whereas Emily's model's hair looked almost as frumpy as the ruffles on the front. Not that this should matter when it comes right down to it, but then again, I'm pretty sure it does...

So once again, in the bottom two it comes to craftsmanship vs creativity gone awry, and apparently they decided to Auf Emily and her ruffle explosion. It was the first time in recent memory that I have firmly disagreed with the Project Runway judges. But then again, one of the judges looked like a colorblind drag queen who forgot to brush her hair (no offense to drag queens, I love drag queens)...I mean who was that woman/man?

Now for good things:

My favorites and Wearable(s) of the Week were a tie between Kenley’s super cute, and super brave, bubble of a dress made me want to smile and sing and dance in the rain, with the help of Tim Gunn’s complimentary rain boots and poncho (Not. Ha!), and Leanne’s elegant, black shirt/skirt that featured a fantastic skirt with more (now in control) circular pieces. Most improved will also go out to Leanne for recovering from last weeks mess, as well as to her model Karalyn for supporting the designer she was working with. Good team work ladies.

Oh and almost forgot, Jerrell's green gown looked like Wood Nymph Goes to the Oscars.

Yes, this weeks Project Runway was a little stressful to me and definitely full of surprises. And next week I expect nothing less.
