Freewrites

I've started this new thing where I just leave a word document open to freewrite randomly and by the end of the day I have a dozen random paragraphs/one-liner thoughts of stuff that pops into my head. Maybe this is something I should start putting up on my blog? I think I will actually...

Just keep in mind these are totally unedited, unpolished thoughts. Otherwise the word "freewrite" would be inaccurate in describing what I'm doing.

I went ahead and post dated yesterday's random accounts.

Random Thoughts of Saturday, June 21, 2008

Saturdays are more important than they’ve ever been. They are this scarce, rarely taken-advantage-of-fully space of freedom. Even when you do finally wake up and realize how perfect they are it can hardly be said that people actually enjoy them. Even when doing something completely worthy of a Saturday there’s that dark lurking knowledge that it’s only Saturday, one day, and tomorrow is Sunday, which means the next day is Monday, which means back to this treadmill of working for something that can’t quite be touched, and that doesn’t have an impact on improving the world or society.

And I want cloves. Is that weird? I’m not a smoker, never will be, never technically have been. But I want cloves. I like the way they taste, and the little scripty “Bali Hai” at the edge of the filter and the lightness.

New Goal: Organize all of my music. Make lists of stuff I want/need. Get rid of duplicates. Clean up external harddrive with music/movies/etc.

food...

I have and am planning to eat a ton of food today. It's actually rather ridiculous.

Food eaten:
Chic-fil-a wrap
Fries dipped in polynesian sauce (yummy)
Cookies n Cream milkshake

Food (to be) eaten:
Hummus and pita bread (being picked up by my fabulous co-worker)

Okay, so on paper/screen it doesn't look like a lot. But in my stomach it's a freakin' Thanksgiving dinner.

(yes, I'm bored enough at work to sit here and list and analyze all of my food... oh Friday)

It's Friday.

Thank youuuuu!

Yippee!

Evil bike boys

So by my experiences I have formed a new opinion on men. Basically, any guy that hasn't ever/doesn't ride bikes is fair game. I don't mean, "Oh let's go ride bikes!" I mean, "I'm so badass, I jump things and ride down hills really fast."

By my experiences I have learned they are jackasses.

Probably because they are, in fact, doing something very dangerous, and have tons of scars, and go to the emergency room at least once every three months...which by definition does make them an badass... However their badass behavior spills over into disrespect for people. (Like, ahem, me...)

Case #1 - Girl likes guy, guy doesn't really like girl, but likes the fact that girl likes guy and continues to emotionally abuse her for almost two years. (This of course is girls fault too, but all girls know that at some point they have in their life a true asshole that for some reason they just can't shake.)

Case #2 - Girl thinks she has found nice, mature, older guy. Thinks that he has his head on straight because he has a full-time job, he's successful. First date she finds out he rides bikes. Fast. On mountain side. Should have been a warning sign, but noooooo. And you guessed it ladies and gentleman, he's an asshole.

Case #3 - Girl has always had a weird crush on guy (that, goes without saying, rides bikes) but he is taken and has a really nice, sweet, girlfriend. Guy suddenly starts professing really weird feelings to Girl, while he, in fact, still has a really nice, sweet, girlfriend. From the girlfriend's point of view, he's an asshole.

Three times, three guys, three bikes.

Lesson learned. (Hopefully)

So what are you going to ask the next guy that asks you out? That's right...

"So, do you ride bikes?"

the right thing to do...?

What an interesting situation, one that is extremely confusing to talk about, even for me because the web of relationships get so tangled that it sounds like a bad soap opera.

Out of all of this I guess the question is, what should a person act on? Should a person take something they've always wanted when it presents itself, even if it causes pain in someone they respect (not best friend, but a respected peer)? Or should they take a step back and walk silently for the good of a social circle that really isn't so perfect, and in the long run, really won't even matter?

Oh what to do....

I've asked several opinions and I have one person saying, "Respect the person you are face-value friends with and leave it alone," while another is saying "If someone is lurking outside of their relationship, that relationship is obviously unstable, so bide your time and wait for what you want to be available." Jennifer says this is shyness vs. over-confidence. What am I?

I am not shy. I am not over-confident. I am not a pusher, but I am not a push-over. I know what I want and it seems unreal when it finally presents itself. Why am I willing to let it go? Why am I willing to step back and be silent? Why can't I step up and take it? What am I afraid of?

I don't know the answer to any of those questions... I think time will tell. But what will make me angry is if I find myself being the shy one, being a push-over, being silent...and I watch an opportunity disappear.

P.s. Do I have a sticker on my forehead that says:

list

Taking a note from Koti’s book…here’s my list

1. Bonnaroo
I am still working on a full account of the adventures. Stay tuned for tales of trips, how I got a rash, hippie love of all types, and rockin’ good music.

2. Insurance company underwriters are going to Hell
No need to explain any further, besides the fact that they said because I had Reynaud’s Syndrome it was a “pre-existing” disease and rejected my insurance. Bastards of the Universe. I had to waste my time, and my doctor’s, by going to see him and getting him to say I was “disease free.” He wasn’t happy with them at all, but I was a little less happy because Sarah had to foot my $80.00 non-health insurance-covered doctor’s bill. Ugh.

3. I feel like Super Slacker
This goes back to Sarah having to pay for my doctor’s visit.

4.) I have re-discovered my hatred for the Clemson University Parking police.
Oh wait, they aren’t even real cops. They’re just rent-a-cops on a power trip driving around in their silent killer golf carts attacking students and teachers alike relentlessly. They too may have a place reserved next to the Insurance Underwriters…

5.) I am not happy to be at work.
I feel like this is Day 3 of a hangover. Meaning – I have a headache, my reaction time sucks, I’m speaking slowly, and the fluorescent lighting above my desk is sucking my soul out more than usual. Ugh. Why can’t I be a jobless hippie? (This is not derogatory, I am currently an employed hippie, as opposed to a jobless hippie, which I would prefer to be…)

TaTa for now!

Bonnaroo: Day 2

Starting the day with Drive-by Truckers (see Songs of the Hour), then swinging around to State Radio on the Sonic Stage, then Tegan & Sara*ssssso excited!*, The Raconteurs, Rilo Kiley, M.I.A., Willie Nelson (just because it's Willie Nelson, how can you not see him?!), and settling in for Chris Rock funnies and finally....

Metallicaaaaaa!

Okay, speaking of Metallica, here's my confession. I am familiar with maybe 10 of their songs, and even then I can't spout the titles/albums/whatev off the top of my head. But I'm okay with that. Metallica is one of the greats (I don't care who you are, how you dispute that, you know who Metallica is...everyone does --- now that could be disputed by people saying, oh well you've heard of William Hung (or whatev his name was) so does that make him one of the greats --- and then I would call you a knit picking pansy and stop making things difficult when you know what I mean...) and they're on my Top 10 Concerts to see list, so needless to say I'm pretty psyched.

After Metallica I plan to spend the rest of my morning hours raving to Tiesto and MSTRKRFT and jammin with the Disco Biscuits.

Life is good...and not like those stupid t-shirts.

Bonnaroo: Day 1

First show What Made Milwaukee Famous at 5:45. Of course I’m going, Duh, it’s the kick off of Bonnarooooo! Then want to bounce between Back Door Slam, MGMT, and over to Battles and Vampire Weekend in a row at the same stage. Then Lez Zepplin and Dark Star Orchestra…going to have to split those in half since they’re kind of at the same time. Porter Batiste Stoltz for the rest of the night. Not completely familiar with them so it’ll be something new. I read up and they’re very New Orleans (actually I think they be from New Orleans). Super siked.

After a long day of road traveling, traffic sitting, and camp pitching this’ll be a not-so gentle baptismal into four days of Musical Madness…

P.s. Bonnaroo. Cajun slang for "a really good time."

Really like my outfit today. There’s so much texture and pattern and eyelet that if it were anything but neutral colors it’d be super cluttered. (P.s Mama bought me this jacket way back when, and of course I hated it at the time. But now I’m a “young professional" and it fits. :-) )

songs of the hour, and thoughts on childhood songs

If you look up up up to the right you will see a new little aspect of my blog entitled songs of the hour. This is my transition into bringing my music into my blog. Mainly, because music is so important to me and if this blog is going to capture me it has to have music, not just my random rantings, photography, etc.

It's entitled Songs of the Hour because they are my songs of the hour, and those change a lot. They are not (or may be) my favorite songs ever, or on my top ten list (favs everrrr, which also changes daily).

I love music. Actually that's an understatement. I can't explain the affect music has had on my life. It goes from Mama singing "La la lu" to me as a baby...actually I don't even think that's the real name of the song, but it went something like "la la lu, la la lu, my little star sleeper, I'll sweep the stardust for you" and she would sing it to me, or play it for me on my little tape player repeatedly. And then there was the song "All the pretty little horses." speaking of that song, I found it the other day in the midst of my music collection. It is the more original, and sinister version of the song I listened to as a child, similar to the way a Grimm's Fairy Tale became a Disney Feature Film. It's played by the band Calexico...but it seemed disgusting appropriate.

And I guess I just brought my thought to a full circle in that one paragraph without actually meaning too. Below is the video and the song.

"All the Pretty Horses" As sung by Calexico

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
go to sleep you little baby
when you wake, you shall have cake
and all the pretty little horses
blacks and bays, dapple and greys
all the pretty little horses
hmm, and mama loves, daddy loves
oh they love their little baby
when you wake, you shall have cake
and all the pretty little horses
blacks and bays, dapple and greys
all the pretty little horses
blacks and bays, dapple and greys
coach and six white horses
way down yonder, down in the meadow
lies a poor little child
the bees and the flies are pickin' out its eyes
the poor little child crying for its mother
oh, crying for its mother
hush-a-bye, don't you cry
go to sleep you little baby
when you wake, you shall have cake
and all the pretty little horses
blacks and bays, dapple and greys
coach and six white horses
blacks and bays, dapple and greys
all the pretty little horses
blacks and bays, dapple and greys
all the pretty little horses

On a brighter note, then there's the other vision of childhood songs...as Sarah just reminded me... "Octopus' Garden" by Raffi, originally by Ringo Star. Sarah and I used to dance around madly and sing it at the top of our lungs. It's quite funny when I think about it because I would've been somewhere between the ages of four and five, which would've made Sarah between the age of fourteen and fifteen. Sarah was/is a good big sister. Video and song also below.

(unfortunately I couldn't find the Raffi version of this song, I guess Ringo will have to do...)

"Octopus's Garden" Ringo Starr

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus' garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you.

But yes music has, does, and will, forever be an integral part of my life.

Like many posts this started as the explanation of one thing and ended up totally fixating on something else. Oh well.

playing in the sprinklers

Friday, June 6, 2008

friday night.

today Sarah quit her job and came home and Jennifer and Bobby had put together a fantastic little party. Bobby had made a cd full of job quitting theme songs and jennifer had cook cook cookeddd and made pink signs that said things like "Yay 4 You", "Yippee!", and "Yahoo!" Very fun.

we took our hotdogs and hamburgers and sat on the front porch. It was the perfect hot summer evening. Key word: Hot. Which lead to the next event, which included Jennifer, Sarah and I running through the sprinkler in the front yard until we were completely soaked (fully clothed I might add) and then we took the party to the back deck and hopped in the hottub in our undies. Yay!

Good times.

Pictures soon.

a little documentation

weekend wasted...and loving it

This weekend was lowkeyfun.
Saturday was pretty uneventful. Went to Kathryn's little bro's graduation and was extremely irreverant and distracted her the whole time by talking to her, probably kind of mean actually. Oops. Apologies Kathryn, but at least you didn't cry! :-)
Then later got ready way to early to go out with people, who ended up being Kathryn, Koti, and Brett (Utterly fabulous, fab fourrr).
We went to the hookah barish/resturaunt thing and had lovely food (Hummas and pita bread for me) and a hookah for each pair. I was in a very odd mood and found myself being very bossy, and probably rather offensive too...sorry guys. :-\ I love you!
Pictures sooooon!

And today is Sunday and I've done nothing but lay on Jennifer's couch and watch America's Next Top Model, with Jennifer, Sarah, and Maggie coming in and out of naptime.
I feel a little guilty, kind of like I've wasted the day...but then again it's the weekend, and I can do with it as I see fit. :-) Hooray and blah.
Mmk, time to go finish this fantastic season of ANTM that I've never seen (Whyyyy?!?!?!)

xoxo

flashback

I never watch Grey's Anatomy, I watched the season finale from season 4 tonight, and I will never watch it again.
There was a scene where this guy started having seizures because he had a brain tumor.
And I suddenly realized I wasn't breathing, or moving, or anything, and then when I finally started breathing my eyes were watering.
Not crying. Just watering.
Disgusting.
Why watch medical shows when you have your own little lovely clips in your brain?

meltdown downtown

at first I was so angry.
and then I cried all the way home with karee on the phone.
Not because i was hurt, but because I was truly sad and frustrated.
I have a list of people I call when I'm upset. And i just keep calling them until one of them answers. Kind of like the meltdown lottery. "Who gets to listen to Susanna's emotional angst todayyyy?!?! YOU WIN!!!!"
What was I so upset about, you may ask.

lazy sunday

I didn't do anything today.
Last night my favs came over - karee, koti, and kathryn.
It was completely fabulous. Sarah and Bobby where gone somewhere for their 5th wedding anniversery (crazyyy) so it felt kind of like the house was all mine. Of course this is the point where Sarah would interject and say "it IS yours!!!" and I would roll my eyes and say "you know what I mean" and she would just kind of glare at me... which is fine.
Anyway they came over, we had dinner (everybody brought a dish), drank wine, then changed into our sexy suits (aka. swim suits) and I made mojitos (if i don't know what else to do with my life i think i have the potential to be a bartender ---cause they were freakin awesome) and we steamed in the hottub for an hour or so.
overall a very successful night
Anyway, today I didn't do anything.
I watched the History Channel, then when Sarah and Bobby got home switched to something mindless (aka. CSI, per Sarah's request). And then at 8 started watching the indiana jones special on the History Channel. ...actually it's still on but i've lost interest temporarily and am now blogging... plus my mojito i fixed for my sunday evening enjoyment may have made me a little relaxed (aka increased my ADD).
anyway today was very relaxing, and wiht the help of a fab weekend, plus my mojito, plus the fact that i'm just in a "whatev" mood, i'm not at all stressed.

...and trust me, i have plenty of reasons to be....

xoxo

back home for a few hours

drove to townville in daylight.
first time in months.
made a minimal difference.
i didn't feel like throwing up. :)

oh goodness...

"I feel as though I AM Carrie Bradshaw...something about the situation and the shoes..."

brand new...again

Was losing all my friends
Was losing them to drinking and to driving
Was losing all my friends but I got them back

I am on the mend
At least now I can say that I am trying
And I hope you will forget things I still lack

(Yeah)

Is it in you now?
To bare to hear the truths that you were spoken
Twisted up by knaves
In a trap for fools

Is it in you now?
To watch the things you gave your life to broken
You stoop and build them up with worn out tools

Yeah

Nothing gets so bad
A whisper from your father couldn't fix it
Your whispers like a bridge, he's a river span

Take all that you have
and turn it into something you were missing
Somebody threw that brick
And shattered all your plans

Yeah

Time to get the seeds into the cold ground
It takes a while to grow anything
Before its coming to an end yeah

Before you put my body in the cold ground, take some time to warm it with your hands
Before it's coming to an end, yeah

It's coming to an end
Do you miss the blend
Of colours she left in your black and white field
Do you feel condemned just being there?

I am not your friend
I am just a man who knows how to feel
I am not your friend
I'm not your lover,
I'm not your family.

Yeah

Time to get the seeds into the cold ground
It takes a while to grow anything
Before it's coming to an end
Yeah

monday. and counting.

today was interesting

I was greeted at my desk on this fantastic Monday morning by the question "So did your mom have a good mother's day?"
I literally just froze and looked at the woman with this look that im sure completely confused her and said "Yes." Then turned around hoping the conversation would end with a swivel of my chair...

Not.

She continued to ask if my sisters and I went to visit my mother.
I found the most normal tone I could muster and said, "My mother passed away last fall."
Which brought the cascades of sorrys and frets and etc. and etc. and I wanted to die.

Ugggggh, tactlessness+nosy+idiocy+human being=fatally awkward situations for everyone.

Granted, the poor woman had no idea...but then comes the tactlessness and the intruding questions 7 hours later about how awkward it made HER feel and then she had the nerve to ask HOW my mother died.

Taking the advice of a rather intelligent person that has recently showed up in my life, I said, "I don't want to talk about it." And had to repeat myself 3 times before she finally got the point.

In keeping with that advice: I was not rude. I was firm.

Happy late Mother's day. ew.

p.s. Bonnaroo planning has commenced. 29 days. Heck freakin' yes

ow

At risk of sounding like a small whiny child...

...I haven't had a headache like this in a long freakin time.

Maybe it's because i'm severely overtired, or maybe it's because Sarah finally cornered me and made me do a budget (i hate talking about money...but the headache actually occured before then), or maybe it's because I got too much sleep, or didn't take a shower before going to bed (ew), or the fact that today was mother's day and i don't have mine anymore, or that i had way too much caffeine, or that the photo printer ink was screwing up and everything i did didn't fix it, or that the weather was stressing me out (tornadoes scare me)...

Or all of the above.

And maybe you have a headache now after reading this...

Just sharing the love.
